Rangers coach Alain Vigneault said
ORLANDO, Fla. -- A miserable season just keeps getting worse for the Philadelphia 76ers. Tobias Harris scored a career-high 31 points and the Orlando Magic beat the 76ers for the second time in less than a week, winning 92-81 Sunday night to extend Philadelphias losing streak to 14 games. The 76ers skid is their longest since 1994, when they lost 15 straight, and includes a defeat last Monday to the Milwaukee Bucks, the NBAs worst team. The 76ers have the NBAs second-worst record, while the Magic have the third-worst. Nikola Vucevic had 18 points and 17 rebounds for Orlando, which outscored Philadelphia 26-12 in the fourth quarter to earn the win. "It was definitely my mindset to attack them, put pressure on their defence," Harris said. "When I saw gaps in their defence, I wanted to attack them. They were focusing a lot on Nik tonight, so I saw a lot of openings spacing-wise that I used to my advantage." Both Orlando and Philadelphia have been clear that they are in rebuilding phases, and the 76ers traded two of their best players -- centre Spencer Hawes and guard-forward Evan Turner -- on Feb. 20. Philadelphia coach Brett Brown attributed the 76ers new-look lineup to their recent woes, pointing to it as a reason behind his squads spate of turnovers against Orlando. "We had 19 turnovers and six came from our point guards," Brown said. "A lot of that happened when we had three of five guys on the court who have only been with each other four days. Our offence hurt us more than our defence. "We were throwing the ball away or not knowing who to turn to. We poked ourselves in the eye with our turnovers. But give Orlando credit for raising the intensity in the fourth quarter and bothering us." Thaddeus Young had 29 points for Philadelphia and Michael Carter-Williams added 17 points and 11 rebounds. Both teams played road games the night before, which might have contributed to sloppy in a game that featured two of the leagues top rookies: Carter-Williams and Orlandos Victor Oladipo. Carter-Williams leads all NBA rookies in points, rebounds, assists, steals and minutes played, is a front-runner to win the Rookie of the Year award, with Oladipo closely following him. Oladipo finished with nine points and Magic coach Jacque Vaughn admitted hes monitoring Oladipos minutes out of concern for fatigue. "Ill gauge his minutes to see how he feels," Vaughn said. "But hes been taking care of his body." NOTES: Magic guards Jameer Nelson (sore calf) and Arron Afflalo (illness) were out with injuries. It was the fifth game in a row Afflalo has missed, three with a sprained ankle and two with illness. . The Magic have a 15-15 record at home, thanks to winning seven of their last eight. . In their 14-game losing streak, Philadelphia has lost by an average of 16.8 points, with 11 of 14 of those losses coming by double digits. ... Even though the team that finishes with the leagues worst record increases its draft lottery chances, its no guarantee. The last team to finish with the worst record and secure the No. 1 pick was the Magic 10 years ago. They used that pick to select Dwight Howard. Nick Van Exel Lakers Jersey . Torres calmly stroked a 51st-minute spot kick down the middle with goalkeeper Romel Quinonez diving right to convert a penalty earned by Javi Martinez. Spain controlled play at the Sanchez Pizjuan but found it hard to convert against a well-organized Bolivian team before Iniesta charged forward to curl around Quinonez in the 84th to seal victory. Dennis Rodman Lakers Jersey . Portland won Game 4 Sunday night at the Moda Center and are now up 3-1. The last time the Blazers won a playoff series came in the 2000 Western Conference semifinals against the Utah Jazz. - The Carolina Panthers believe Steve Smith lost "top-end" speed, a big reason the franchise parted ways with its all-time leading receiver. Derek Fisher Jersey . The Tournament of Champions, which starts Friday, is his first event since a freak accident in Shanghai two months ago. Snedeker was on a Segway scooter during a corporate outing at Sheshan International when he took a tumble and injured his left knee. Michael Cooper Jersey . -- Broncos defensive end Derek Wolfe was alert and recovering at a Denver hospital Saturday after suffering seizure-like symptoms when the teams bus pulled into the airport Friday afternoon for the flight to Kansas City.SAN JOSE, Calif. -- Tomas Hertl is having quite a first week of his NHL career. Hertl scored four goals, Matthew Nieto had his first NHL goal and added two assists and the San Jose Sharks beat the New York Rangers 9-2 on Tuesday night. "Im not even sure he realizes where he is," Sharks coach Todd McLellan said. "Hes a passionate young man and hes playing freely." Hertl saved his best for last. Driving toward the net, the 19-year-old scored a spectacular goal. He skated in on Martin Biron and put the puck between his legs and scored over the backup goalies right shoulder at 12:05 of the third. "This is a dream," said Hertl, who practices the shot daily. "This is crazy. Ive never scored more than two in a game, maybe." The outgoing Czech, who does not own a car and is too young to rent one, has made it fun for his teammates. "That was special," Sharks captain Joe Thornton said. "You dont see that too often. Thats something I dont have in my bag. That was pretty. Its been fun to watch him." Marc-Edouard Vlasic, Dan Boyle, Logan Couture and Justin Braun also scored for the Sharks, who won their third straight of the young season. They have outscored their opponents 17-4. Jason Demers and Joe Pavelski each had three assists. Hertl tied the Sharks record for most goals in a game. Owen Nolan did it on Dec. 19, 1995. "Four goals, thats an awesome night," Pavelski said. "Hes moving at a high speed. It was exciting for everybody." Brad Richards and Derek Dorsett scored for the Rangers, who were coming off a 3-1 victory over the Los Angeles Kings on Monday night. San Jose goalkeeper Antti Niemi needed to stop 18 shots for the win while Rangers goalkeeper Henrik Lundqvist stopped 22 of 26 shots during his nearly 30 minutes on the ice. Biron took over in the net after the Sharks built a 4-1 advantage and saved 16 of 21. The Sharks outshot the Rangers 47-20. The nine goals were one off the franchise record. The Rangers may have lost more than a game. Star forward Rick Nash, who entered the game with three assists, was taken off the ice after getting hit in the right jaw area by Brad Stuart, who was called for elbowing on the play, early in the first period. "It justt didnt feel right," Nash said.dddddddddddd "I could feel it. Any time you get a head shot youre concerned. Its not a good feeling." Rangers coach Alain Vigneault said replays showed Stuarts shoulder coming into contact with Nashs head and that "it seemed like his feet left the ice. Thats for the league to decide." Hertl also had two goals in Saturdays win over Phoenix. Richards opened the scoring on Tuesday with his third goal of the season at 3:27 of the first. The Rangers converted their two-man advantage. The long shot was aided by Ryan Callahan, who had screened off Niemi. "The Sharks were on top of their game," Vigneault said. "Its tough to understand, at this point, how we can play so well last night and play this way tonight. "You think youre taking a step forward after the way we played last night and obviously we didnt take a step forward with the way we played tonight." The Sharks answered with a short-handed goal less than a minute later, with Vlasic blasting it past Lundqvist. Boyle gave the Sharks a 2-1 lead at 7:56 of the first period. Pavelski won a faceoff, Nieto kept it alive and Boyle made the shot. The Sharks scored three goals within a span of 1:23 of the second period. Nieto scored his first career goal, followed by Hertls first of the game. "It was great to get my first goal," Nieto said. "I couldnt be happier. Im happy for Tomas too. They were all pretty goals." Biron was in the game for 20 seconds when Couture scored, though it was hardly a conventional goal. Patrick Marleaus shot was wide and it bounced up the board and flipped back over the net, where Couture chipped it home. Hertl added his second goal three minutes later to make it 6-1. Dorsett scored at 8:22 of the third period and Hertl answered with a power-play goal at 9:02 for the hat trick. After Hertls fourth goal, Braun closed out the scoring with a power-play goal at 15:53. NOTES: Thornton recorded his 789th career assist, tied for 32nd on the all time list. ... Callahan played just his second game since labrum surgery sidelined him last May. ... The Rangers are on a franchise record nine-game road trip to open the season because of renovations at Madison Square Garden. ' ' '
